Can I cancel my order before it ships?
Contact us immediately if you need to cancel an order. A full refund is available only before fulfilment, freight booking or shipment preparation has begun. Once fulfilment has started, the order may no longer be cancellable and the standard return terms will apply.
How do I request a return?
Email support@coolheatdirect.com with your order number, product and model number, reason for the return and photographs where applicable. Do not ship anything until you receive written authorization and the correct return instructions.
When will I receive my refund?
We aim to inspect an authorized return within three business days of receipt. Once approved, the refund is issued to the original payment method within seven business days after inspection. Your payment provider may require additional time to display the refund.
This normally means the refund will be issued no later than 10 business days after the authorized return is received.
Warranty & Product Protection
What does the MRCOOL® warranty cover?
Warranty coverage varies by product and series. The applicable parts, compressor, registration and installation requirements are stated in the manufacturer’s warranty document for the specific model. Review the product documentation before installation.
How do I activate my warranty?
Review the warranty document supplied with your product. Some products may require registration, while others include standard coverage without registration. Where registration is required or available, complete it using the model number, serial number and proof of purchase.
Does installation affect warranty coverage?
Yes. Products must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable laws, codes, permits and licensing requirements. Some non-DIY warranty claims may also require proof of professional installation.
What is not covered by warranty?
Warranty does not cover issues caused by incorrect installation, misuse, or physical damage after delivery. Consumables like filters and routine maintenance are also not included.
Who handles warranty claims?
Warranty claims are reviewed under MRCOOL’s applicable warranty process. Cool Heat Direct can help customers locate order documentation, warranty information and manufacturer contact details, but warranty coverage and claim decisions are determined under the manufacturer’s terms.
Product & Performance Guide

Advanced BTU Sizing & Climate Guide
How do I choose the right BTU size for my room?
Start with the room’s square footage, then consider ceiling height, insulation, windows, sun exposure, local climate and how the space is used. Our sizing guide and calculator provide a useful starting estimate, but larger, unusual or whole-home projects may require a professional load calculation before purchasing.
Do climate and insulation affect BTU sizing?
Yes. Outdoor temperatures, insulation quality, ceiling height, air leakage and the building’s construction can all affect the heating and cooling capacity required. A poorly insulated room or a space in a demanding climate may need more capacity than a similar-sized, well-insulated room.
What if the room has large windows or strong sun exposure?
Large windows and prolonged sun exposure can increase the room’s cooling load. Window size, orientation, glazing, shading and insulation should therefore be considered alongside floor area when selecting a system.
Can one mini-split heat/cool multiple rooms?
A single-zone mini-split is generally designed for one room or defined area. Some conditioned air may move into connected open spaces, but even temperatures in separate rooms cannot be guaranteed. For multiple enclosed rooms, consider a multi-zone system with a separate indoor unit for each zone, or an appropriate ducted solution.
What happens if I choose the wrong size?
An undersized system may struggle to reach the desired temperature during demanding weather. An oversized system may cycle too frequently, cost more than necessary and provide poorer comfort or humidity control. Accurate sizing helps the system operate more consistently and efficiently.
Cold Climate & Hyper-Heat Performance
Will a MRCOOL system heat in freezing temperatures?
Low-temperature performance varies by series and model. Check the product’s rated operating range and heating-capacity specifications for your local winter conditions. Hyper-Heat models are designed for colder climates, but system sizing and building heat loss must still be considered.
What is Hyper-Heat and why would I need it?
Hyper-Heat units deliver more stable heating capacity in extreme cold, preventing drop-off in performance. They’re ideal for northern regions or homes that rely on heat pumps as the primary heat source.
Can a mini-split replace my furnace or boiler?
In some homes, a properly designed heat-pump system can provide primary heating and cooling. Suitability depends on climate, building heat loss, system capacity and local installation requirements. A professional load calculation is recommended before replacing an existing primary heating system.
Are heat pumps efficient in winter?
Inverter heat pumps adjust their output according to demand and can provide efficient heating when correctly sized and installed. Actual energy use and savings vary by climate, building condition, energy prices, system selection and usage.
Do I need special maintenance for winter conditions?
Keep the outdoor unit free of snow and debris to maintain airflow. Regular filter cleaning and yearly check-ups ensure peak cold-weather performance.
Troubleshooting & Quick Fixes
My system isn’t cooling/heating enough — what should I check first?
Ensure the system is in the correct mode, clean the filters, and close windows/doors to maintain airflow. Clearing any obstructions around the outdoor unit can also instantly improve performance.
Why is there water dripping outside the unit?
Condensation is normal during cooling mode and indicates the system is removing humidity. If water is leaking inside the home, the drain line may need clearing or adjustment.
I see an error code — what does it mean?
Each code identifies a specific condition. Check your user manual or contact us — we can help interpret the code and guide you through the next steps.
Why does my heat pump make noise or blow cooler air at first?
Mini-splits adjust speed and temperature automatically. Short periods of cooler air or a brief “whoosh” sound can occur during defrost cycles and are normal.
What if my system isn’t responding or won’t turn on?
First, check that the breaker is on and the remote has fresh batteries. If the problem continues, power-cycle both units by turning them off for a few minutes, then restart the system — and if needed, reach out to our support team for quick assistance.
Product Selection Guide
How do I choose between DIY® and professional-install systems?
MRCOOL DIY® systems are designed for homeowner installation and use pre-charged Quick Connect® line sets. Installation must follow the product manual and all applicable local codes, permits and licensing requirements. Licensed electrical or HVAC work may still be required depending on the location and project. Universal®, EasyPro® and Olympus® systems have different installation requirements, so review the specific product documentation before purchasing.
What BTU size do I need for my space?
BTU requirements depend on floor area, ceiling height, insulation, windows, sun exposure, local climate and how the space is used. Our sizing guide provides a useful starting estimate, but unusual, multi-room or whole-home projects may require a professional load calculation before purchasing.
Should I choose single-zone or multi-zone?
Pick single-zone for heating/cooling one room or area. Choose multi-zone if you want comfort across multiple rooms using one outdoor unit.
Which MRCOOL® series is best for cold climates?
Low-temperature performance varies by series and model. Review the product’s rated operating range and heating-capacity specifications for your local winter conditions. Hyper-Heat models are designed for colder climates, but correct sizing and the building’s heat loss must still be considered.
Can a mini-split replace my existing central system?
In some homes, a properly designed heat-pump system may provide primary heating and cooling. Suitability depends on the climate, building heat loss, existing ductwork, electrical capacity, system sizing and local installation requirements. A professional load calculation is recommended before replacing an existing central system.
